SHORT ARTISTIC CURRICULA

Was born in Naples July 22 1966. He is primarily self-trained in musical research and started studyng music at 10 years.

Massimo studied, whit very good results, with various important drum teachers in Italy (T. De Piscopo, W. Calloni) in early 80’s and the most prestigious being Maestro Enrico Lucchini, one of the most appreciated teachers in the world, in years 70’s teacher in the Dante Agostini and Kenny Clarke drum school of Paris, revolutionary teacher for the drum's didactic in Italy and irreplaceable today too.

He has attended different high-level clinics in drumming and ensamble performance, with important teachers. Since 1992 e has been teaching with good results his own "Rythm Psychology", which he conceived as a way to communicate his didactic-musical research on the interpretation of rhytmic divisions resulted since 2011 in an special Stage on "WHAT IS THE GROOVE (and how to reach it)" and how to get open to all musicians.

He same concepts are included, from the first lesson on, in the classes that has been independently teaching since 1986 (also musicians from other bands and instruments and voice). He uses, along with different methods, his own "THE COMPLETE DRUMS' METHOD" . This book, including some new lesson concepts and more, after many years of experimentation and elaboration, has been improved and is now directly printed by M. Aiello with international copyright without editor and distribuited around the world by Youcanprint.it, NICE PRICE English PDF Version and Italian paper Version.

From 1976 to now Massimo Aiello has been playing with nearly 100 Italian and foreign bands, using more than 40 different musical styles, both as a professional and an amateur player, always approaching each experience, no matter if big or small, with a natural spirit of study and research. In some situations he has collaborated/played also with or for important producers/musicians like Sandro Colombini, T. De Piscopo, Vince Tempera, Roberto Vernetti, Renato Geremia and others.

He participated with some famous groups: Inti Illimani, i Nomadi, Gipsy King, C.S.I., Curiosity killed the cat, Kool and the Gang, etc. as a soloist or with groups to some cultural, social and political events.

The work that most charachterizes him, though, is own original solo performance "TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN" in which he drums on a recording of the 9th Symphony. The performance lasts about 80 minutes and has encountered a great success since 1987 in theathers, squares, churches, educational institutes, theather festivals.

It is a different way of playing classical music: my target is the intention of playing “inside” the Sypmphony with the right notes, melodies and groove/interpretation and not to dominate the music as normally done.

And is also available since 2001 on CD, “TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN -  Drum In The Symphony no.9”, produced and with international distribution by Azzurra Music S.r.l.; the CD is homage annex to Book-Method for drums by Aiello in Italian paper Version.

This first Aiello's CD as a soloist has received very good different specialized magazines in many countries all over the world between these, in 2004, the authoritative international magazine of drum, the number 1 in the world, "MODERN DRUMMER" (rating: 3 stars), and in 2007 “Percussive Notes” the official magazine of the PAS-Percussive Arts Society, since 1961 the greatest and important organization/network for the percussionists and the drummers of all the musical disciplines; besides it is programmed in different Radios and TVs, very important too, in many countries.

In 2008 as a soloist DEMO-CD "TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN 2 - Drum Improvisation On The Symphony no.5", unlike the first one “Drum In The Symphony no.9", as the title suggests “Drum Improvisation On The Symphony no. 5”, this interpretation is almost completely based on Improvisation “on” the Fifth, instead of following a real score for drum written and provided whit little improvisation to sound “within” the 9th Symphony”.

In 2013, February Massimo Aiello is been selected for MODERN DRUMMER's Drummer Blog where he has his own page.

In the Blog are selected and inserted less than one hundred drummers year all over the world.

Massimo Aiello is been inserted, with relative link to his website, in the DRUMMERWORLD’s Wishlist, the website number 1 in the world as reference for drummers.

He keeps (in Veneto - Italy) teaching his courses since 1986 (also musicians from other bands and instruments and voice), always acknowledged and appreciated in his own circuits for the enthusiasm with which Massimo educates to music.

Massimo Aiello He was born in Naples on July 22nd, 1966.

In 1976 he started to study music attending a popular course. He got his degree in 1980.

In the same years he played the snare drum , the percussion and the trombone with different bands and dance-bands.

In 1980 he passed his exam of trombone and entered the Conservatory “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice. He attended it for about one year but then he preferred to devote himself to the study of drums.

In the early 80ies he completed the drums course conducted by Tullio de Piscopo at the “Centroteatroattivo” in Milan.

In the second half of 90ies he studied for a short period at the CPM in Milan, with the drummer Walter Calloni.

In the same period he attended the famous course of  Maestro Enrico Lucchini, one of the most appreciated teachers in the world, in years 70’s teacher in the Dante Agostini and Kenny Clarke drum school of Paris, revolutionary teacher for the drum's didactic in Italy and irreplaceable today too.

Aiello has always been interested in musical research and devoted himself to the enrichment of his basic techniques through a deep personal study. He started teaching in 1986 and devoted himself to it with the aim to transfer his musical experiences to his students (also musicians from other bands and instruments and voice) in his independent courses since 1986: on DRUMS, on Practical course in SOLFEGE and Music Theory (not only for drummers), on A GUIDE TO MUSIC LISTENING WHILE PERFORMING (not only for drummers), on "WHAT IS THE GROOVE (AND HOW TO REACH IT)" (not only for drummers), on DRUMS COACH, on BANDS COACH, on INSTRUMENTS COACH (not only for drummers).

In particular the Drums Course, implicitly combined with other Courses and the other way around, is especially designed for the best basics of General Setting and therefore ideal for a professional training towards the first-class specialised international schools in relation to the fundamental technical skills on all the main subjects of drums and Music in general, from accuracy and advance analysis within practising and playing to the Music Form, Structure Identity of Music and in addition a world-class winning attitude vital for a fine Character, Creative Voice and Personality in Music.

In 1992 he organized the first stage of “Psychology of rhythm”. He wished to deepen his musical and didactic research concerning the rhythmic subdivision setting up some systems and concepts finalised to improve both the drum techniques, the other instruments and voices in order to help the dialogue, the listening

and the study of music as a whole, at any level. The results of these stages have always been very good as these methods start to be applied from the very beginning

in his drums courses (also musicians from other bands and instruments and voice) and resulted since 2011 a special stage on "WHAT IS THE GROOVE (AND HOW TO REACH IT)" (not only for drummers) and how to get open to all musicians.

He has attended a lot of drum seminars, among which the most important was the one with Gary Chaffee, high level stages were the ones with Peter Erskine, Dave Weckl, Tommy Campbell and others, including ensamble music workshops, the latest of which was under the direction of Tomaso Lama in 2001 and covered Jazz Trio performance.

Some of his musical experiences can be found in the text "Experimental course of guidance to the study of drums - with some didactic schemes - First Part (provisory title)", (carried out between December 1996 and February 1997). It was presented as a lecture note and used by Aiello in his courses together with other methods which he usually uses for teaching, including also some new lesson concepts and more.

This first part after many years of  elaboration and improved and then going to be published since year 2002 to year 2005 with good results with the title "Corso Orientativo per Batteria" ("Orientative Drums Course"). In August, 2005 is ready the Second Part of the Orientative Drum Course (carried out between July 2005 and August 2005). It was presented as a lecture note and used by Aiello in his courses for teaching, including also some new lesson concepts and more.
